LYRiK Awards

The Leadership, Youth and Respect in Kwinana (LYRiK) Program recognises the achievements of young people and provides mentoring opportunities to those aged 10 to 24 years who live, work or go to school in Kwinana. The LYRiK Program aims to develop leadership skills, financial, budgeting and goal setting skills, community-building skills, independence, confidence and resilience.

The LYRiK Program is proudly supported by Eclipse Soils, Coogee, and Alcoa.

LYRiK Awards

Established in 2006, the Leadership, Youth and Respect in Kwinana (LYRiK) Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of Kwinana young people aged 10 to 24 years.

A young person or group of young people aged 10 to 24 years can be nominated across any of the seven LYRiK Award categories. Every nominee will receive an invite to a LYRiK Leadership day prior to the LYRiK Scholarships and Awards Ceremony. Every award winner will receive a $250 cash prize. 

LYRiK Awards Categories

Arts, Media & Culture Award

Celebrates a young person(s) demonstrating creativity and innovation through the arts, media, or cultural expression. This award celebrates talent, originality, and the ability to share stories or perspectives that enrich the community.

Education/Career Progression Award

Recognises a young person(s) who has shown outstanding dedication to education, training, or career development. This award celebrates commitment to learning, determination in overcoming obstacles, and a clear drive to build a positive future.

Environmental and Sustainability Award

Recognises a young person(s) committed to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable practices. This award honours efforts that create long-term positive environmental impacts and encourage others to care for the planet.

Growth and Resilience Award

Celebrates a young person(s) who has shown remarkable perseverance, personal growth, and resilience. This award acknowledges those who have faced challenges with courage and have emerged stronger, inspiring those around them.

Leadership Award

Recognises a young person(s) who demonstrates strong leadership through initiative, teamwork, and positive influence. Recipients motivate others, lead by example, and contribute meaningfully to their school, workplace, or community.

Sports and Recreation Award

Acknowledges a young person(s) who has excelled in sport or recreation through skill, dedication, sportsmanship, and teamwork. This award celebrates achievement, participation, and positive involvement in active, healthy lifestyles.

 

Youth Mentor of the Year Award

Recognises a person (young person or adult) who has demonstrated exceptional guidance, encouragement, and support for young people. This award honours mentors who make a significant difference through their dedication, empathy, and positive influence.

 

All nominees are eligible for the below two awards, decided by the LYRiK assessment panel:

  • Personal Development Award
  • Carol Adams Young Person of the Year

To be eligible applicants need to:

  • live, work or go to school in the City of Kwinana
    • Be between the ages of 10-24
    • Be 10 by the 18 September 2026
    • Be 24 and not turning 25 for the duration of the program which ends on the 26 October 2026.
    • Age cut off exception for the Youth Mentor of the Year Award, anyone from the age of 10 and up, including adult mentors.

Tip for Nominators

When completing the nomination form, include detailed information about the young persons, their achievement and any other supporting information for the nomination. This will support the assessment panel to better understand the young person and their contributions to the Kwinana community.
