Youth Volunteering

Kwinana Youth Volunteering Program

The Kwinana Youth Volunteering Program connects young people aged 16 – 24 years to volunteer roles at City of Kwinana facilities including the Zone Youth Space, Kwinana Recquatic and Kwinana Public Library.

Why Volunteer?

Along with that warm fuzzy feeling you get from helping others, volunteering is known to help in lots of other ways including;

  • Feeling more connected to your community;
  • Developing new skills or building the skills you already have;
  • Gaining valuable experience that looks great on your resume and may help you score a job down the track;
  • Meeting and making friends with other young people who have similar interests and;
  • Increasing your self-confidence.
     

Eligibility

To participate in the Kwinana Youth Volunteering Program, you must be:

  • Aged 16 – 24 years
  • Live, or go to school, in the City of Kwinana
  • Willing to sign up as a City of Kwinana volunteer
  • Willing to obtain a Working With Children Card and apply for a National Police Check if required (18 years or older)
     

Commitment

Volunteers will be asked to commit to 2 - 3 hours per week for six months. You are welcome to try different roles or stick with one role for longer.

Please note the Device Advice (Customer Enquiries) and Device Advice (Surveys) roles at the Kwinana Public Library have varying commitment – see specific roles below for hours.

Available Volunteer Roles

Zone Youth Space

Kitchen Assistant

Duties include: Prepare, cook, and serve dinner at the Zone Youth Space & clean up.

  • Thursdays, 4pm – 6pm OR;
  • Fridays, 4pm – 8pm.

Role Requirement: Must have an interest in hospitality
 

Zone Program Assistant

Duties include: Prepare resources/snacks, assist staff and participants during the program & room set up and pack down.

  • Monday – Friday, 3pm – 5.30pm

Role Requirement: Must have an interest in working with young people (12 – 17 years)
 

Kwinana Recquatic

Team Sports Assistant

Duties include: Assist Sports Supervisors and players during games, court set up and pack down, completing scorecards, admin (fixtures and scorecards) & cleaning equipment.

  • Mixed Futsal (indoor soccer) – Mondays, 6pm – 8.45pm; OR
  • Mixed Netball – Tuesdays, 6pm – 10pm; OR
  • Women’s Netball – Wednesdays, 6pm – 8.45pm; OR
  • Women’s Netball – Fridays, 9am – 12pm (competition will start shortly in 2022)

Role Requirement: Must have an interest in sports and recreation
 

Kids Sports Assistant

Duties include: Assist Program Instructors and participants (children and parents) during the program, court set up and pack down & cleaning equipment.

  • Tumbling Tots (1 – 2 years) & Jumping Juniors (2 – 4 years) – Thursdays, 8.45am – 12.30pm OR;
  • Multi Sports (5 – 12 years) – Fridays, 3.15pm – 6pm

Role Requirement: Must have an interest in working with children (12 years and younger)
 

Gym Instructor Assistant*

Duties include: Assist Gym Instructors in the functional training, weights and cardio studios with Adult Pre-Exercise Screening System appointments and creating new workout programs for members, assist members with queries, shadow Gym Instructors during group fitness classes, set up and pack down for classes & clean equipment.

  • Monday – Friday between 5.30am – 10.30am; OR 10.30am – 3.30pm; OR 3.30pm – 9pm.
  • Saturday between 7.45am – 12.30pm
  • Sunday between 8.45am – 12.30pm

Role Requirement: Must have an interest in the fitness industry

*Please note you must provide Proof of Vaccination (minimum double vaccinated) to volunteer in the gym
 

Swimming School Instructor Assistant

Duties include: Assist Swimming School Instructors in the pool and on the deck during lessons, lesson set up and pack down & cleaning equipment.

  • Monday – Friday, 8.45am – 12pm; OR 3.15pm – 6pm OR;
  • Saturday, between 7.45am - 1pm OR;
  • Sunday, 8.45am – 12pm

Role Requirement: Must be able to swim
 

Lifeguard Assistant

Duties include: Assist Lifeguards on deck and in the water (where appropriate), set up lanes, supervise the water, cleaning, toilet checks, and assisting customers.

  • Monday – Friday between 5.30am – 3pm OR 6pm – 8pm;
  • Saturday between 7.15am – 5.15pm OR;
  • Sunday between 8.15am – 5.15pm

Role Requirement: Must be able to swim
 

Kwinana Public Library

Technology Assistant

Duties include: Assist customers with technology enquiries related to the Library such as computers, photocopying, emails.

  • Mondays or Tuesdays, 9am – 12pm

Role Requirement: Must have an interest in, and knowledge of, technology
 

Device Advice Assistant (Customer Enquiries)

Duties include: Assist customers in small groups or individually with enquiries about common household technologies such as mobile phones and iPads.

  • Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 5pm

Please note this role requires volunteers to be available for 1 hour, twice a week.

Role Requirement: Must have an interest in, and knowledge of, technology
 

Device Advice Assistant (Research)

Duties include: Research and write instructions on how to solve common technology issues such as mobile phones and iPads.

  • Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 5pm

Role Requirement: Must have an interest in, and knowledge of, technology
 

Device Advice Assistant (Surveys)

Duties include: Complete short surveys with customers relating to common issues they may have with technology such as mobile phones and iPads.

  • Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 5pm

Please note this role is short-term only (1 – 2 months).

Role Requirement: Must have an interest in, and knowledge of, technology
