Educational scholarships

The LyriK Educational Scholarships assist young people with their studies as the enter Year 7, Year 11, Year 12 and further education beyond Year 12.

LyriK Educational Scholarship Program

The Scholarship Program is part of the City’s LyriK – Leadership, Youth, Respect in Kwinana Program and aims to recognise educational achievement and encourage further education, towards improved education standards in Kwinana. The LyriK Educational Scholarship Program is proudly supported by Alcoa and Coogee.

Applicants are scored against criteria across three key areas - academic, personal, and community – in relation to what they have achieved in 2021.

The scholarship funding can be used to purchase educational items including:

  • books;
  • stationery;
  • academic related technological equipment;
  • school uniforms; and
  • educational fees.

Scholarship Categories

There are four scholarship categories for those entering Year 7, Year 11, Year 12 and further education in 2022.

  • Entering Year 7 - $300;
  • Entering Year 11 - $375;
  • Entering Year 12 - $400; and
  • Entering further education - $800.

Eligibility

To be eligible applicants must:

  • Live in the City of Kwinana; and
  • Be studying within Kwinana or outside the area; and
  • Fall within one of the scholarship categories.

Selection Criteria

Under the three key criteria areas – academic, community and personal - applicants will be asked to answer the following ten questions. Each question is worth 10 points for a total score out of 100.

ACADEMIC 

  • What were your Top 5 academic goals for 2021 and how did you achieve them?
  • What qualities did you use to achieve your academic goals this year?
  • Beyond academic achievements, in what other ways did you contribute to school life this year?
  • In what ways have you improved academically in this school year?
  • What are your educational aspirations for the future?

COMMUNITY 

  • How have you engaged in or contributed to the community in 2021?
  • How has your community involvement positively promoted young people?
  • What leadership qualities have you developed through your involvement in the community? 

PERSONAL 

  • What were your Top 3 passions/interests goals in 2021 and how did you achieve them?
  • How have your academic, community and personal achievements in 2021 helped you reach your educational aspirations?

Applications will be assessed by a panel comprised of representatives from all three local high schools.

To apply for a LyriK Educational Scholarship applicants will need to complete the online application form below. Applications will open in early October.
