About the LYRiK Program

The Leadership, Youth and Respect in Kwinana (LYRiK) Program recognises the achievements of young people and provides mentoring opportunities to those aged 10 to 24 years who live, work or go to school in Kwinana. The LYRiK Program aims to develop leadership skills, financial, budgeting and goal setting skills, community-building skills, independence, confidence and resilience.

The LYRiK Program is proudly supported by Eclipse Soils, Coogee, and Alcoa.

About the LYRiK Scholarships 

The LYRiK Scholarships Program is a mentoring program for young people aged 15-24 years who live, work or go to school in Kwinana and have an education or employment goal. You must be willing to commit to 4 x 90 minute mentoring sessions.

Recipients will receive a $1000 scholarship to help make their goal happen.

The mentoring sessions will give recipients the opportunity to develop financial, budgeting and goal setting skills tailored to suit their needs and learn more about their field of interest from a mentor working in that area.

The program will offer sixteen (16) scholarships under seven (7) different categories:

  1. Arts, Media & Culture – For careers such as photographer, filmmaker, dancer, painter, writer, musician, or tourism and cultural sector roles.
  2. Community, Defence & Emergency Services – For careers such as youth worker, police officer, firefighter, paramedic, or roles within the Defence Force and emergency services.
  3. Hospitality, Retail & Beauty – For careers such as chef, barista, retail assistant, store manager, hairdresser, makeup artist, or other customer-focused industries.
  4. Innovation, Environment and Sustainability  – For careers such as environmental scientist, sustainability officer, conservation worker, renewable energy technician, or roles focused on environmental innovation.
  5. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) – For careers such as engineer, software designer, lab technician, data analyst, maths or science teacher, or other STEM-related roles.
  6. Sports, Fitness and Health – For careers such as nurse, doctor, physiotherapist, personal trainer, coach, or other health and wellbeing professions.
  7. Trades and Business - For careers such as electrician, plumber, carpenter, mechanic, business owner, accountant, or other trade and business professions

All applicants will be invited to a LYRiK Leadership day prior to the LYRiK Scholarships and Awards Ceremony.

Successful recipients and their mentors will be invited to attend the LYRiK Scholarships and Awards Ceremony in October 2026.

To be eligible, applicants need to:

  • live, work or go to school in the City of Kwinana
  • applicants need to be between the ages of 15-24
  • applicants need to be 15 by the 21st June 2026
  • applicants need to be 24 and not turning 25 for the duration of the program which ends on the 30th September 2026

  • 26th October – Mentors and recipients attend the LYRiK Scholarships and Awards Ceremony

Become a Mentor

Would you like to mentor young people in Kwinana? The City of Kwinana is looking for mentors to support local young people as part of the LYRiK Scholarships.

Please note: this is a voluntary position

Becoming a Mentor

Mentors need to be:

  • 18 years or older
  • have worked, studied/or similar
  • If successful, willing to commit to 4 x 90 minute mentoring sessions
  • If successful, willing to attend the LYRiK Scholarships and Awards Ceremony in October 2026
