About the LYRiK Program

The Leadership, Youth and Respect in Kwinana (LYRiK) Program recognises the achievements of young people and provides mentoring opportunities to those aged 10 to 24 years who live, work or go to school in Kwinana. The LYRiK Program aims to develop leadership skills, financial, budgeting and goal setting skills, community-building skills, independence, confidence and resilience.

The LYRiK Program is proudly supported by Alcoa and Coogee.

LYRiK Scholarships 

The City of Kwinana offers 12 scholarships worth $1,000 each to young people aged 15 to 24 who live, work, or go to school in Kwinana. If you have an educational or employment goal, and would benefit from mentoring and financial support, you could apply for a LYRiK Scholarship.

If your application is successful, you will attend four mentoring sessions across May and June at the Zone Youth Space. You will be matched with a mentor in your chosen career. Mentoring sessions will focus on budgeting, goal setting and next steps for your educational or employment journey.

Scholarships are available in the following areas:

  1. Sports, Fitness and Health – For careers such as nurse, doctor, coach, personal trainer or physiotherapist.
  2. Science, Technology, Engineering and Sustainability (STEM) – For careers such as engineer, maths teacher, software designer or lab worker.
  3. Community Services and Defence – For careers such as youth worker, police officer, firefighter, or within the Defence Force.
  4. Hospitality and Retail – For careers such as barista, chef, store manager or retail assistant.
  5. Arts and Culture – For Careers such as photographer, dancer, painter, filmmaker or tourism operator.
  6. Trades and Business – For careers such as electrician, plumber, hairdresser, beautician or lawyer.

  • 11 April 2025 – Applications close
  • May/June 2025 – Mentoring sessions at the Zone Youth Space
  • June 2025 – Mentors and recipients attend the LYRiK Awards Ceremony

When writing your application please provide detailed information about your career type, potential mentor type and any other additional information.

Become a Mentor

Would you like to mentor young people in Kwinana? The City of Kwinana is looking for mentors to support local young people as part of the LYRiK Scholarships.

Please note: this is a voluntary position

Expression of Interest 

Becoming a Mentor

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have Worked or volunteered in your industry or industry for at least 3 years
  • Be able to attend 4 mentoring sessions (each 90 minutes) in May/June
  • Be available to attend the LYRiK Awards night in June
