Building and Construction Site Management

The Building Services (Registration) Regulations 2011 requires that all building and construction sites display a sign that must:

  1. be located in a prominent position on the site and be able to be read by members of the public from outside the site;
  2. be of reasonable dimensions and written in clearly legible letters; and
  3. contain the following details:
    • the name, registration number and contact phone number of the building contractor; and
    • the name and registration number of the nominated supervisor for the building contractor.

Failure to comply with the signage requirements may result in prosecution. For further information on signage rules see Industry Bulletin 28 on the Department of Commerce website.

Additional considerations

  1. During the construction phase of the project all storm water is to be contained on site by the builder to prevent any runoff to the street or across allotment boundaries. Downpipes connected during construction must discharge to an approved drainage system.
  2. The subject lot is to be maintained so that all sand is retained on the site to prevent sand drift onto the verge and/or road.
  3. Parking near the job site must not hinder traffic flow and allow safe passage.
  4. The verge adjacent to the Property must be maintained free of building materials, site sheds, offices and toilets unless the City of Kwinana has issued written permission to the builder to place, store or keep those items on the verge (note 1).

The footpath or kerbing adjacent to the property must not be damaged in any way during the construction of the building the subject of this permit (note 2).

Notes

  1. Under the provisions of the Local Government (Uniform Local Provisions) Regulations 1996 you are required to gain approval for a verge permit if you store building materials on the road verge, failure to obtain the necessary permit may result in a fine.
  2. All of the City of Kwinana owned assets in the vicinity of the building works need to be protected during construction. Existing damage to any of the City of Kwinana assets including footpaths and kerbs within the vicinity of the building works need to be recorded by taking photos or other means to be used for proof of existing damage prior to the start of the building works. In the event that the City’s assets are damaged and evidence of pre-existing damage can not be produced by the building permit holder, the City will request the builder to repair the damage at their cost.
