Sporting and Achievement Grants

The City of Kwinana has a number of funding opportunities available to increase community participation.

Achievement Grant

This program helps individuals and teams who are selected to represent Kwinana at competitions, conferences or events—locally, across Australia or overseas.

To apply, you must be chosen by a recognised state or national organisation and provide a letter confirming this.

Funding helps cover the costs of attending the event.

View the City's Community Grants and Funding Guidelines.

What funding can I apply for?

You can apply for money to help with travel costs when going to a competition or event to represent Kwinana. The amount depends on where the event is:

  • Regional (within WA, outside Perth): Up to $150 per person or $400 per team
  • National (outside WA, but still in Australia): Up to $300 per person or $1000 per team
  • International (outside Australia): Up to $500 per person or $1500 per team
Who can apply?

Anyone who is selected to represent Kwinana at a regional, national or international event. This can be a sport, conference or another official event.

If you’re under 18, your parent or guardian must fill out the form.

You can apply if:

  • You live in the City of Kwinana.
  • You are going to a regional, national or international event to perform, compete or represent Kwinana.
  • You have been officially chosen by a recognised State or national organisation (you must show a letter of selection).
  • If there is no official organisation, you can provide a letter from your club president.
  • You have not already received this grant in the same financial year (from 1 July to 30 June).
  • You are applying before the event starts. (Please apply at least 4 weeks before your event so we have time to process your request.)
When can I apply?

You can apply any time of the year. But funding is limited, so once it runs out, applications will close.

Applications are made through the City of Kwinana’s SmartyGrants portal.

Conditions of the grant

If your application is successful:

  • After the event, you must show proof that you attended. This could be a photo, medal, or flight ticket.
  • If you don’t attend the event (for example, due to injury), you must return any money you didn’t spend.
  • You can only get one grant per financial year.
  • Have acquitted any previous funding applications given by the City of Kwinana
  • Please note any successful grants of $500 or more will be detailed on the City’s online register for a period of 5 years. Details will include name, brief description, amount awarded and acquital status.

KidSport

KidSport helps children in Western Australia join local sports clubs, even if their families don’t have much money.

If your child is between 5 and 18 years old, you can apply for help to pay for club fees.

KidSport applications are assessed by the local government where the child lives. If an application is approved, the person who applied will get an email with a voucher. The voucher code needs to be used when registering at your club.

Vouchers can be used as payment for registration, membership or participation fees. Sometimes vouchers can also be used for essential uniform and equipment costs.

To find out if you are eligible and how to apply, visit the KidSport section on the WA Government website or ask your local club or the City of Kwinana for help.

Who Can Get KidSport?

To apply for KidSport, your child must:

  • Be 5 to 18 years old
  • Have a valid Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card
  • Live in the City of Kwinana (or the council area they are applying to)

To learn more or apply, visit the  KidSport and submit your application.

Help for Sports Travel Costs
