Unrestricted Burning Period

The Unrestricted Burning Period is in effect. Residents in rural zoned areas can burn at any time without a permit, but must do so safely and responsibly. Cat and Dog Registration and Ownership

​Find out about cat and dog registration and renewals, including sterilisation, microchipping and registration fees.

How to register your dog 

The Dog Act 1976 requires all dogs over the age of three (3) months to be microchipped and registered.

Registration will not be accepted until your dog is microchipped.     

Dogs should be registered before 31 October each year.                                                            

To register your dog please:

  1. Complete the Dog Registration Form
  2. Ensure you have the following information:
    • Completed registration form
    • Payment (see fees below)
    • Proof of concession card holder (if applicable)
    • Proof of microchipping (and sterilisation if applicable)
  3. Submit the completed form, payment and documents to the City of Kwinana:
    • In person at the Administration Office
    • By post to PO Box 21, Kwinana WA 6966.

Dog registration fees  

Please note, pensioner concession card holders receive 50% discount on the following fees.

Breaches and penalties

Breaches of registration requirements will be addressed and failure to register your cat/dog  may incur a fine of $200 fine or further legal action.

How to Transfer Your Dog Registration to the City of Kwinana

Step 1: Notify Your Previous Council
Let your previous council know that your dog has moved out of their area.

Step 2: Confirm Your Current Registration
Ensure your dog’s registration (lifetime, three-year or one-year) is still valid. Registrations can be transferred between local councils within Western Australia free of charge.

Step 3: Complete the City of Kwinana Dog Registration Form
Download and fill out the City’s Dog Registration Form

Step 4: Provide Proof of Current Registration
Attach a copy of your dog's existing registration certificate or renewal notice.

Step 5: Submit Your Application
Email your completed form and proof of registration to:
rangers@kwinana.wa.gov.au

or

Drop it off in person at the City's Administration Building, Corner Gilmore Avenue and Sulphur Road, Kwinana

Please note:

  • The registration can only be transferred to the same owner listed on the current registration.
  • Attach proof of concession card if applicable. 
  • Attach proof of sterilisation required if animal was unsterilised on previous registration.
  • Any outstanding registration will be honoured and transfered to the City of Kwinana once forms are complete and verified with previous City/Shire.
