The City of Kwinana invites local young people to apply for an educational scholarship for the 2020 school year with the City's LyriK Scholarship Program opening on Monday, 7 October 2019. The City is awarding 16 scholarships from $300 to $800 to assist young people with the purchase of educational related materials.
The City's LyriK (Leadership Youth, Respect in Kwinana) Scholarship Program aims to recognise the educational achievements of local students and encourages the attainment of entry-level qualifications and further education.
Mayor Carol Adams said that the Scholarship Program was an opportunity for students to gain some financial support as they transition through their schooling.
"At the City we value the importance of education, and aim to assist the youth of Kwinana with access to the best opportunities available to them," Mayor Adams said.
"By providing financial support with these scholarships, we hope to assist in raising the educational standards of young people and increase their competitiveness in the employment market," she said.
Scholarships are awarded to students entering years 7 ($300), 11 ($375) and 12 ($400) and to those students finishing year 12 and continuing onto higher education ($800).
Applications for the City's LyriK Scholarship Program open on Monday, 7 October and close Sunday, 3 November 2019. Students can apply online on the scholarships webpage.
The LyriK program is proudly sponsored by Alcoa and Coogee Chemicals.
