Mental health support ‘Grows’ in Kwinana
7 September 2020

Would you like to work on your mental health and wellbeing and get support from a safe and caring group?

The City of Kwinana has partnered with Grow – an organisation that delivers mental wellness programs – to bring a unique program to Kwinana locals. The Kwinana Grow Group will help people recover from mental health issues and achieve a range of personal goals. It is confidential, free of charge and open to anyone over the age of 18.

Lynda Diagne, field worker for Grow said: “the Kwinana Grow Group is a safe and confidential space to work on your mental health and wellbeing and connect with others.”
Kwinana Resident and Kwinana Grow Group organiser Harriet Sawer is a returning ‘Grower’ who originally joined in 2014.

“What makes Grow so great is that you don't need a referral and it has a down-to-earth structured program,” said Harriet.

“Of course the support of the group is great - people who want to take responsibility for their recovery as well as give back to others. For so many reasons it is all too easy for people to isolate during periods of mental distress. Grow brings a real sense of community. I’ve met so many people of all ages and backgrounds who have found Grow groups to be invaluable to their personal growth.”

“Improving mental health, promoting positive wellbeing and connecting communities is a key strategy in the City’s Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, 2019-2023, and of course mental health has been highlighted even further in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams.

“Collaborating with Grow is a great step towards our Health and Wellbeing Plan and we look forward to the group using our Library space.”

Grow will run two information sessions to allow locals to ask any questions about the program. The sessions will be held on Thursday, 10 and 17 September from 10am to 12noon. The Kwinana Grow Group will start on Thursday, 24 September from 10am to 12noon at the Kwinana Library Activity Room inside the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre. It will be held every week thereafter.
