Changes to Recycling

​​Significant changes have been made to the types of recyclable materials accepted in the yellow-topped bin​. These changes are part of an effort to try and reduce contamination and make recycling easier for everyone to understand.

Recycling Bin Upgrade

​​​Are you interested in upgrading your recycling bin from 240litre to 360litres? It's now free to upgrade your recycling bin. You'll receive 50% more space to help you to recycle right. 

How to apply for a 360L recycling bin:
  1. Contact the City of Kwinana’s waste contractor, SUEZ, on 1300 293 955.
  2. SUEZ will explain the process and assist you with the free upgrade.
  3. Be patient, as your new bin could take up to 90 days to arrive.

What if I already paid for the upgrade?

Residents who previously paid for the upgrade may be eligible for a refund​. Please complete the ​Refund Application​​ and submit it to the email address provided.​​

Composting Video Demonstration

The City is working to ensure the safety of its community and staff. In an effort to stop the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) a video presentation has been developed with step by step instructions on how to compost at home.

Compost Workshops ​

The City of Kwinana hosts Composting Workshops to provide Kwinana residents with the exclusive opportunity to purchase twin composting bins at half the regular cost. By attending a composting workshop you can learn more about recycling your organic waste and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill! All workshops are free to attend. 

Attendees of these workshops can claim the subsidy after attendance at an online or in person Compost Workshop. The subsidy applies for 2 x Tumbleweed 220L Gedye Compost Bins available for purchase at hardware stores. The compost bins are manufactured in Australia from 100% recycled plastic.​

Worm Farm Workshops​

The City of Kwinana will be hosting a variety of Worm Farm Workshops to provide Kwinana residents with the exclusive​ opportunity to purchase a highly discounted Worm Café and learn more about recycling organic waste at home. All workshops are free to attend.

Bokashi Buckets

The City of Kwinana offers a subsidy to purchase a Bokashi Bucket and Bokashi Mix to residents of the City. Bokashi composting is an eco-friendly composting system designed to be used in the kitchen. 

The Bokashi system works to turn your food scraps, including, meat, fish and dairy into rich compost and eliminates the odours and unpleasantness associated with purification and decay of food waste.

To purchase your Bokashi Bucket and a 1kg bag of Bokashi Mix for the discounted price of $50, visit the City of Kwinana Administration Building. Limited to one bucket per household.

Pr​u​nings and green waste delivered to the City of Rockingham landfill facility is recycled into mulch. This mulch is available free to the public, however residents are responsible for loading it themselves.
