Local Planning Strategy

The City of Kwinana is preparing a new Local Planning Strategy (LPS) to guide the strategic growth and development of our City inline with the aspirations identified by the community in the Strategic Community Plan 2017-2027

In considering future land-use, the Strategy will consider a range of influences such as;

  • transport,
  • housing diversity and choice,
  • economic growth and employment,
  • the distribution of retail, commercial and industrial land,
  • environment and biodiversity,
  • rural areas,
  • heritage matters; and
  • community infrastructure and facilities.

The City’s Local Planning Strategy is influenced by State Government policy and in particular the  South Metropolitan Peel Sub-Regional Planning Framework, which aims to ensure that a comprehensive approach is taken to planning for residential development, local employment, infrastructure provision, and protecting natural resources and environmental attributes.

The strategy allows these strategic State development initiatives and planning policies to be combined with the City’s own local planning initiatives.

The City of Kwinana will be consulting extensively to ensure that the community’s needs are identified and considered in the City’s future land use planning.
