Project History

​​The Kwinana Adventure Park has cemented itself as one of Perth’s most popular family destinations. But there were many hurdles to overcome before this incredible facility could become a reality. 

This brief timeline gives a glimpse into the many steps involved in a project of this scale.​​​

Early 2011

The Rotary Club of Kwinana approaches the City with the idea for a children’s adventure playground. The Rotary Club were integral to the project's initial development.

September 2011

Following extensive preliminary discussions, research and planning, the project is endorsed by Council.  


Detailed research is undertaken to assist the City in securing external funding.

January 2013​

The Federal Government commits $2million toward the project – a pivotal turning point.

2013 to 2014

Comprehensive community consultation and design planning is undertaken.

Late 2014

The tender for detailed design is awarded to Josh Byrnes and Associates, in partnership with Jeavons Landscape Architects. Detailed and specific project planning commences.

November 2015

Construction contract is awarded to Environmental Industries, the sod is turned and the works officially begin.

October 2016

The Kwinana Adventure Park is opened to great celebration and rave reviews. To this day it remains one of the most visited playgrounds throughout Western Australia.

October 2017

​The Kwinana Adventure Park takes out the highest honour - Australia-wide Park of the Year - at the national Parks and Leisure Australia awards, held in Queensland.​ This is one of the most significant awards in the entire country, awarded to one of Australia’s most impressive family destinations.​​​
