Background

I was born in Fremantle and moved to Kwinana in 1970. During the past 48 years, I have come to love the district playing cricket with the Kwinana team and being a member of the golf club for some years.

I am a blacksmith having served my time at Midland Railway workshops.

I served in the Australian Army for five years and was president of the Kwinana RSL from 2000 til 2003.

I have worked on the Kwinana strip at the Kwinana Nickel Refinery until 1977as a pipe fitter welder.

For over ten years before being elected, I served with Skillshare as a committee member then as Chairman as well as a member of the Australia Day committee and on the Kwinana Recreation Development Trust (four as chairman) for ten years.

I have three children all of whom attended Kwinana Senior High School.

Professional Experience

I taught Metal Construction Trades subjects at TAFE from 1977 to 2011 and hold several Education Qualifications and a BEd (Bachelors Degree).

I hold AS1796 welding qualifications and have taught MIG, TIG and MMAW to advanced levels.

I taught welding metallurgy to an advanced level as well as many other subjects.

The New Opportunities for Women (NOW) course that I taught at the Peel Campus was one of my favourites.

My experience working in both the military and civilian areas with Youth and adults has enabled me to communicate well with both age groups and genders.

Interests

I am very interested in the SES and fire brigades as our family has a history of brigade membership. My Brother, Son in law and Daughter have been or are members.

I am also very interested in planning to ensure the City obtains the best outcomes, not only now but in the future.

I firmly believe we have a very experienced and capable staff within the Council to ensure the rapid growth we are currently experiencing is well managed.
