The countdown to the biggest event of the Kwinana calendar has begun with a free performance from the Perth Symphony String Quartet at the Marketplace shopping centre this morning.
Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams received a cheque from Tianqi Lithium’s General Manager, Phil Thick, to the tune of $40,000 as the quartet performed the Queen classic Bohemian Rhapsody and the theme from Star Wars.
Tianqi Lithium Australia General Manager Phil Thick said the sponsorship allowed Tianqi Lithium to contribute something unique and valuable to the local community and at the same time support the work of the Perth Symphony Orchestra.
“This event is unlike any other that has been run in the City of Kwinana and we are very pleased to play a significant part in bringing it to the community that we are very proud to be a part of,” Mr Thick said.
“It really is something for all ages to enjoy and from the preview we have been given, it will be an awe-inspiring event that we hope will enrich the lives of those who come to enjoy it,” he said.
The Tianqi Lithium Symphony Spectacular is a free community concert featuring the Perth Symphony Orchestra. Following on from the hugely successful 2017 Act-Belong-Commit Rock Symphony, it is set to be the biggest and loudest event Kwinana has ever seen.
“Today was just a little taste of what we have planned for December 1st,” Mayor Adams said.
“Just imagine your favourite rock and pop songs, performed as you’ve never experienced them before, with a fully-fledged 55-piece orchestra and fantastic light show,” she said.
The concert set list includes the hits of INXS, George Michael, Queen, Icehouse, Fleetwood Mac and film classics from Star Wars, Gladiator and Slumdog Millionaire, to name a few.
“I would like to thank the generous contribution of $40,000 from Tianqi Lithium and to recognise their commitment to the Kwinana community through the sponsorship of this exciting event,” Mayor Adams said.
Other sponsors of the event include Fremantle Ports (Silver), Kwinana Industries Council (Silver) and Wesfarmers (Silver+).
The concert will take place on Saturday 1 December from 6.30-9.30pm on Calista Oval and concertgoers are encouraged to bring chairs or rugs along with a picnic, or to take advantage of the great range of food trucks available
A free shuttle bus service will be operating to and from Wellard and Kwinana Train Stations from 5.30pm to 10.00pm.
