Mayor's Christmas Message 2018

12 December 2018

Christmas is covering the City of Kwinana with its magical presence in the form of the Chisham Square Christmas tree, lights and stunning decorations, plus events and family entertainment to warm your heart this festive season.

The City of Kwinana has always indulged in a fun, festive Christmas and this year is no different with the famous Christmas Lolly Run back again. Listen for the beeps as Santa and his helpers spread special cheer to all areas in Kwinana on Christmas morning. This year we have fire trucks, utes and even a motorcycle and sidecar heading out to cover every street in Kwinana. We thank our volunteers for their huge efforts in helping us continue this amazing event.

It would of course be remiss of me not to reminisce on the year that has been. We've had another 12 months filled with incredible new events, entertainment and projects that make Kwinana a joy to call home. The City is showing no signs of stopping with the 2019 calendar packed full of fun and informative programs and events with something for everyone.

We're of course always working to ensure Kwinana continues to thrive with many plans coming into fruition in the near future including our own Reconciliation Action Plan 'reflect' RAP, Strategic Waste Management Plan, the Community Infrastructure Plan, plus the creation of a Parking Strategy and a Bike and Walk Plan.

We have also hosted numerous community events including the Positive Vibes Youth Festival, Alcoa Children's Festival, and our big concert event - the Tianqi Lithium Symphony Spectacular, which was enjoyed by over 7,000 attendees.

Our projects and event calendar are always driven by the City of Kwinana's areas of Aspiration – 'Rich in Spirit', 'Alive with Opportunity', 'Surrounded by Nature' and 'It's all Here'. I hope you agree that as a community we're incredibly resilient in these four areas and will only grow stronger together in the future.

As we come to the end of 2018, may you have plenty of fond memories to look back on from this year and look forward to a bright future as we head into 2019.

However you choose to celebrate - or not celebrate – this festive season, I hope you have the chance to enjoy a well-deserved break and spend special time with family and friends.

On behalf of the Councillors and staff at the City of Kwinana, I would like to wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.

Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams
