Kwinana gets ready for biggest children’s event yet

9 February 2018

The Alcoa Children's Festival is set to be the ultimate day out for families with young-ones under twelve. On Saturday 17 March, Calista Oval will transform into a vibrant Children's paradise filled with interactive science, art, music and environment activities. Children can make their way through a range of hands-on workshops and stations including Supersonic Science, Old McDonalds Farmyard, Arty Brellas and African Drumming. All activities are free or low-cost.

City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the City was proud to take the annual children's event to the next level.

"The City's popular Children's Party has been revitalized and expanded into a bigger and better Children's Festival, now offering a wider variety of activities and entertainment for a broader age range.

"Young children will be kept busy in the under-five's zone with craft and dance activities, while adventurous children will enjoy rides and go karts. Parents and guardians will not be disappointed either, with a massage station and plenty of food trucks and coffee on offer," she said.

The Alcoa Children's Festival will be held at Calista Oval, alongside the multi-award-winning Kwinana Adventure Park.

"Home to the Kwinana Adventure Park and Edge Skatepark, Kwinana's City Centre has become a popular family destination and the ideal location for the Alcoa Children's Festival," said Mayor Adams.

The work of Kwinana's youngest artists will also be proudly displayed at the Alcoa Children's Festival, including artworks produced by grade four students as part of the Environmental Histories project. This project will see around 200 students participate in talks and workshops by the City of Kwinana in the areas of bushland; coastal and marine; wetlands; and waste management.  West Australian artist Shana James will then work with the students to create their own Concertina Picture Book based on what they have learned.

The Alcoa Children's Festival is made possible thanks to generous sponsors Alcoa and Lotterywest.
