City of Kwinana Councillor Sandra Lee has been recognised for outstanding long and loyal service to her local community at the 2019 WA Local Government Convention.
Councillor Lee was among a number of local government elected members and officers who received an award for their contributions to the sector and their local communities at the event, held on 7 August.
"I feel proud, honoured and humbled to be a WALGA honours recipient for the Long and Loyal Service Award," said Cr Lee.
"It is my pleasure to serve, as I have always been passionate and committed to the Kwinana community," she said.
Councillor Lee was first elected into office in 2005, and has been re-elected for three consecutive terms. During this time she has worked hard to create opportunities and facilities for City residents, especially those who are challenged by disability.
"I'm so pleased that Councillor Lee has been recognised for her many years of service to the City and her dedication to its economic, social, cultural and environmental planning," said Mayor Carol Adams.
"Councillor Lee was instrumental in establishing our Community Consultation Policy, which has assisted in engaging the community in the development of the City's Local Planning Strategy towards 2050," she said.
Prior to being elected, Councillor Lee served the Kwinana community by participating in organisations including Kwinana Children's Play Group (serving as Secretary), Frank Konecny Community Centre (serving as Treasurer) and the Imagine Kwinana Community Committee.
Councillor Lee is a long-term member of numerous committees and currently serves as Chairperson on the Leda Primary School Special Education Support Centre Board and the South West Reference Group Committee. She also assists many local groups through volunteer work, including the Homestead Ridge community, Medina Residents Group, Friends of the Spectacles Group and the Rotary club of Kwinana.
