The City of Kwinana is hosting a variety of interactive events during September to celebrate International Month of Biodiversity, which promotes protecting, conserving and improving biodiversity both within Australia and across the world.

The main attraction will be the City’s annual Wildflower Walk, to be held on Sunday 15 September.

Mayor Carol Adams noted that this years’ experience will be enhanced by an interactive ‘open air’ gallery that will feature weavings by Noongar artist Janine McAullay Bott.

“Janine’s work is inspired by the Noongar people, the land and its native animals,” Mayor Adams said.

“The addition of her artwork will provide the community with a new way to discover and experience our diverse and beautiful landscape at a time when it is alive with wildlife and flowers,” she said.

This year the wildflower walk will also feature a self-guided tour using QR codes narrated by the artist.

Other events to be hosted by the City during September include a weed identification workshop, an exhibition of Janine’s work and a botanical drawing class, to be held at the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre, and Nightstalk – a guided tour looking at the nocturnal creatures in Lyon Road Reserve, Wandi.

“These events will provide our community with the opportunity to engage with experts in their fields and to learn about the diversity of flora and fauna that exists right here in Kwinana,” Mayor Adams said.
