The Kwinana Community is being invited to have their say about "Tomorrow's Kwinana" through a series of engagement activities, commencing this week (Monday, 15 April 2019).
The engagement activities will help inform the preparation of the City's Local Planning Strategy (Strategy), which is the City's long-term vision for land use in the City of Kwinana. In preparing the Strategy, the City will need to take into consideration the direction and policies set by the State as well as local issues and opportunities that exist.
Mayor Carol Adams said the City would be consulting extensively around the themes of Housing, Employment, Transport and Biodiversity to ensure the community's needs were considered in the City's future land use planning. Discussion Papers have been prepared to assist the community and stakeholders understand where we are now and how the City might respond to issues and opportunities for the future.
"The Local Planning Strategy aims to ensure that future land use within the City is appropriately considered and optimised to provide the community with better access to jobs, provision of diverse housing while retaining the distinct character of areas," she said.
"Demographic change and housing needs can influence how we will live, work, play and shop in the future so it is important that the community have their say on how they see these aspects of our community progressing into the future.
The City's Local Planning Strategy is influenced by State Government policy and in particular the South Metropolitan Peel Subregional Planning Framework, which aims to ensure that a comprehensive approach is taken to planning for residential development, local employment, infrastructure provision, and protecting natural resources and environmental attributes.
The Local Planning Strategy, once prepared, will provide the strategic basis for the preparation of the new Local Planning Scheme (LPS4).
Residents will have until the Friday, 24 May 2019 to have their say on the Local Planning Strategy by either providing their comments in writing, completing an online survey or by attending at workshop:
