The City of Kwinana has established a 'reading Chill Out Zone' at Kwinana Marketplace which will be open to the public from 17 to 21 September.
Mayor Carol Adams said that finding time to read was a great stress reliever with research showing that it has an even greater effect than listening to music, going for a walk or enjoying a cup of tea.
"There's nothing quite like chilling out and getting lost in a good book," Mayor Adams said.
"So, to celebrate Australian Reading Hour on Thursday 20 September, we thought we would bring some books to the Kwinana Marketplace to remind people to take a break in their usual routine and enjoy a book."
The pop-up space has been generously donated by the Kwinana Marketplace and books are available to read in the space or to be taken home.
"The books in the chill out zone have been generously donated by Library visitors or have been decommissioned from our catalogue, so people are most welcome to adopt them and take them home," said Mayor Adams.
"We also have some great little goodie bags that are free for visitors to take once they've finished relaxing" she said.
The Kwinana Public Library will also be recognising 'Read an eBook Day' next Tuesday 18 September. Information about this and other library services is available here.
