Residents are urged to prepare their families and properties now for emergencies like bushfires as the weather warms up, hosting a free family day dedicated to bushfire preparedness.
The City of Kwinana in partnership with the Department of Fire and Emergency Service (DFES) will host the Summer Sounds x Bushfire Community Day on Saturday, 17 October, bringing live music and bushfire preparedness together for one family-fun filled afternoon.
From noon until 5pm at Honeywood Oval in Wandi, residents will learn practical ways to prepare their homes, gardens and families with fire hose demonstrations, firewise gardening information, the RAC Rescue Experience, free children’s activities and live music from 2pm to 5pm.
Community Safety and Ranger teams will provide information and services for residents, including dog registrations, and residents will be able to speak directly with bushfire experts and emergency services personnel.
City of Kwinana Mayor Peter Feasey said the Summer Sounds food passport would return this year to give attendees the chance to sample from participating vendors, making it a great family day out with Two Cent Professionals set to headline the event.
“Bushfire preparedness starts before there is an emergency,” Mayor Feasey said.
“Come along to learn what you need to consider when preparing your family, property and animals for an emergency, building you bushfire knowledge through hands-on displays and demonstrations.
“This is a valuable opportunity to share important bushfire preparedness information at an engaging community event while retaining the relaxed, local atmosphere associated with Summer Sounds.”
