The City of Kwinana is entering a season of change with monthly meetings announced and relocations planned, including Customer Service moving to the Business Incubator on Stidworthy Way from Monday, 17 November.
Mayor Peter Feasey congratulated Barry Winmar who was elected by the Council as Deputy Mayor at the 29 October Ordinary Council Meeting, where Councillors Balian Miller, Matthew Rowse, Barry Winmar and Erin Sergeant were also sworn in following the recent Election.
“Barry has a wealth of leadership experience not only within the City of Kwinana but across Perth and we welcome his return to the role of Deputy Mayor,” Mayor Feasey said.
One of the Council’s first tasks was to announce the tender for the Administration Refurbishment last night, awarded to Swan Group WA Pty Ltd.
“Due to the age of the building, with sections built 30 to 50 years ago, end-of-life components now require replacement,” Mayor Feasey said.
“After considering various options, including a new build, the previous Council resolved on 22 May 2024 that the most financially conservative approach to address the current issues with the facility, and to ensure that it was made fit-for-purpose, was to progress a refurbishment with funding for the project allocated in the 2024-25 financial year budget.
“Construction is planned to begin in late 2025 with key upgrades including the air con replacement, ceiling and insulation upgrades, and a new fire alarm system.”
Council also adopted a new schedule of meeting dates for 2026, to transition Council to monthly meetings in light of the Administration Building’s refurbishment.
“This approach also aligns with contemporary Local Government practice and supports effective governance, informed decision-making and the timely progression of Council matters,” Mayor Feasey said.
“Importantly for our residents, the City’s customer service desk will relocate for the duration of the works.
“From Monday, 17 November residents will need to access Customer Service from the Kwinana Business Incubator at 11 Stidworthy Way,” he said.
“We are in a season of change heading into the new year and look forward to meeting with our residents in new spaces as we work on a refurbishment that will ultimately better serve the community and the City’s staff into the future.”
