Funds for solar and energy storage to reduce emissions

Funds for solar and energy storage to reduce emissions

Kwinana welcomes Federal funding for cleaner, cheaper energy.

The City of Kwinana is one of eight Local Governments in WA to bring down energy bills for good in the second round of a Federal Government fund known as the Community Energy Upgrades Fund.

The City is set to receive $566,602 under the fund to reduce its emissions by using solar and energy storage.

Mayor Peter Feasey said the City of Kwinana had a clear Energy Plan with the goal of reducing corporate greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent by 2030, and achieving net zero by 2035.

“This funding announcement will help us reduce our demand on the electricity grid, while accelerating toward our net zero goals,” Mayor Feasey said.

“As a result of this funding, a total of 292kW solar and 420kWh of energy storage batteries will be installed between the Administration precinct, Depot and Business Incubator.

“These new systems will result in ongoing energy cost savings at these facilities and avoid a projected 777 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, contributing towards the City's target of net zero corporate emissions by 2035,” he said.
