Kwinana hosts the first BiG Day In south of the river connecting young people with careers to build the workforce of the future.

The first BiG Day In event south of the river launched in Kwinana last month in an effort to build the workforce of the future.

Opened by Premier and Kwinana MLA Roger Cook and South Metropolitan MLC Kate Doust, the event’s 230 participants were welcomed by Mayor Peter Feasey who said the City’s strong focus on sustainability make it the perfect location for the STEM and IT careers showcase.

“Kwinana was proud to host of the first BiG Day In event south of the river which offered high school students the chance to engage with key hirers including Microsoft, WiseTech Global, the Australian Defence Force and more,” Mayor Feasey said.

Premier Cook said the future jobs landscape in WA would focus on technology, with the Kwinana region positioned as a renewable energy powerhouse and a further 10,000 jobs expected through defence.

Organiser ACS Foundation‘s Kerrie Bisaro said BiG Day In was so popular it sold out at the Koorliny Arts Centre, with a lengthy waitlist suggesting a strong need to link youth with sustainable career pathways.

“We are grateful to the Kwinana Industries Council for supporting this event and congratulate to Isobel Cubong who received a Women of STEM Scholarship 2025 on the day,” Ms Bisaro said.
