The City of Kwinana is pleased to receive substantial support for youth services in Kwinana, with a recent announcement by Eclipse Soils adding to the delivery of an election commitment by Kwinana MLA Roger Cook.

Eclipse Soils resumed financial support for the Leadership Youth and Respect in Kwinana (LYRiK) program to include environment and sustainability in the LYRiK scholarships and add new categories to the annual Awards.

The funding of $120,000 per year for four years will also support the YouThrive Pathways Program, the Kwinana Youth Advisory Council, add an environment and sustainability stream to the Kwinana Youth Impact Grants, and support the Koorliny Arts Centre’s STEM programming during school holidays.

Marford Group founder Trevor Delroy said the Group’s company had a strong commitment to the community, was very happy to renew its long-term association with the City of Kwinana’s youth development programs, and looked forward to working with the City to deliver other important community infrastructure.

“Given the transformation that will occur in the Kwinana region with the development of both Westport and the AUKUS projects we feel it is critical that local young people be given every chance to share in the opportunities that these once in a generation projects will bring,” Mr Delroy said.

Mr Cook was also encouraged to see significant investment in young people locally.

"Youth in Kwinana are very important to me,” Mr Cook said.

“That’s why I committed funding to the Kwinana Beats music studio to help young people engage more in music.

“Also, I’m glad to see local businesses investing in youth initiatives in Kwinana," he said.

Kwinana Beats supports self-expression, allowing young people to gather to write, record and produce their music.

Participants worked to create an album this year called Days Go By featuring eight original songs.

Mayor Peter Feasey said this recent youth investment expands opportunities for meaningful employment through exposure to new skills, services and experiences.

“Equipping the next generation by supporting their growth and celebrating community pride aligns with our community’s vision for a vibrant and inclusive community that leads with innovation and sustainability,” he said.
