To help potential candidates understand what’s involved, two information sessions will be held:
- Online session: Monday, 18 August 2025, 6.00pm – 7.00pm
- In-person session: Tuesday, 26 August 2025, 5.30pm – 6.30pm at the City of Kwinana Council Chambers
These sessions will provide an overview of the role and responsibilities of Elected Members, as well as details about the nomination process. Nominations open on Thursday, 28 August and close at 4.00pm on Thursday, 4 September 2025.
Mayor Peter Feasey encourages prospective candidates to attend the session and consider standing for Council.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for community-minded individuals to make a difference, as standing for Council is a rewarding way to contribute to the future of our community,” Mayor Feasey said.
“If you’re connected to your neighbourhood, value public service, and want to see Kwinana thrive, we encourage you to nominate. Elected Members play a vital role in shaping the future of Kwinana.”
This year’s election will again use the Optional Preferential Voting system, which allows electors to number as many or as few candidates as they wish in order of preference. This voting method is more aligned with State and Federal elections.
Election packages will be posted to enrolled electors about four weeks before election day, from 17 September 2025. Completed ballots must be received by 6.00pm on Saturday, 18 October 2025. The count will begin at 6.00pm, with results published shortly after.
Residents are also reminded to check their enrolment details with the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC), especially if they’ve recently moved, changed their name, or turned 18. The electoral roll closes at 5.00pm on Friday, 22 August 2025.
