The Zone Youth Space is inviting young people to leave their mark on Kwinana by getting involved in an exciting mural for Youth Week (10 April to 17 April).

The mural was designed by local artist Samantha Prentice who led a consultation session with more than 25 young people to gather ideas for the mural and then provide feedback on her design.

Mayor Peter Feasey said while the mural was part of Youth Week celebrations locally, it is designed to be a lasting and meaningful addition to the City of Kwinana’s public art landscape as a symbol of the voices and contributions of young people in the community.

“The Kwinana Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and the City’s Youth Team wanted to activate the space behind the Zone Youth Space during Youth Week,” Mayor Feasey said.

“It also ties in with the theme of Youth Week this year of ‘Our Threads, This Place, Your Moment’, which celebrates identity and interconnectedness, place and youth empowerment.

“The final artwork represents what young people feel connects them to Kwinana, creating a strong sense of local pride and will enliven the exterior of the building while aligning with the City of Kwinana’s Public Art Masterplan,” he said.
