The City of Kwinana is thrilled to announce the exciting expansion of the OMG! Festival in November 2024. This year, the festival evolves from its fringe roots into a multi-day, multi-venue celebration of light, art, and culture, offering a month of immersive and unforgettable experiences.
The festival will transform streets and open spaces into vibrant spectacles of wonder, curiosity, and surprise, creating an extraordinary atmosphere for the entire community.
City of Kwinana Mayor Peter Feasey said “With the OMG! Festival expanding, it’s a perfect opportunity for the community to come together, engage with exciting performances, and celebrate local culture.”
Mayor Feasey added, “The festival’s new format promises captivating light-themed entertainment for all ages, transforming Kwinana’s streets and open spaces into hubs of creativity and fun.”
The festival will kick off with Get in the Grove, a two-night event taking place on Friday, 8 November, and Saturday, 9 November, from 6pm to 9pm at The Grove, nestled between the City of Kwinana Administration Building and Koorliny Arts Centre.
The space will be transformed into a stunning night-time setting, featuring festoon lighting, outdoor furniture, and a host of food trucks, offering delicious fare from Twisted Kitchen, Franny’s Moving Kitchen, and more.
A pop-up bar will add to the lively atmosphere, while free live entertainment ensures something for everyone to enjoy. A major highlight of the evening will be The Guardian, a towering 10-metre mythical creature adorned with glowing crystal shards, which will roam through the festival space, captivating audiences with its magical presence. The evening will also feature the enchanting performance of five larger-than-life flamingo puppets, while LED acrobatic performers and stilt-walkers will dazzle onlookers.
Acoustic music from Hannah and Palle on Friday and the Blackbird Duo on Saturday will provide the perfect soundtrack for the festivities.
Following the excitement at The Grove, the festival continues the following weekend with the Wellard Street Festival, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Wellard Square on Saturday, 16 November, from 6pm to 9pm. This vibrant street party will bring The Strand, Wellard, to life, offering an evening of family-friendly fun.
The Strand will be illuminated by interactive light installations designed by Lux Events, while roving LED acrobats and an LED hula-hoop workshop will add a playful and energetic flair to the event. Attendees can enjoy live street performances from Ricochet Circus, participate in a Circus Game Show, or explore the bustling market stalls. Local businesses and food trucks will offer special menu items, while a silent disco, DJ, and dance floor will keep the party going into the night.
The City of Kwinana thanks its major sponsors, Lotterywest and Fremantle Ports, for their support in making the OMG! Festival a highlight in their cultural calendar.
