Summary of 2024's Achievements

Summer Sounds
The highly anticipated Summer Sounds Concert returned at the start of the year. The City looks forward to welcoming 2025 with another evening filled with live entertainment, activities, and delicious food for the whole community to enjoy.

Gilmore Avenue shared path officially opened
With the completion of the second stage of the Gilmore Avenue Shared Path in July, a new, safe link has been established for those walking and riding from Thomas Road all the way through to Wellard Road.
The project was jointly funded by the City of Kwinana and the State Government as part of the WA Bicycle Network Grants Program.

Inaugural Boola Mara Aboriginal Consultative Committee
A major step forward in strengthening local Aboriginal voices in City decision-making, the Boola Mara Aboriginal Consultative Committee was elevated mid-year from an advisory group to a consultative committee with greater scope and influence. This change will help shape Kwinana's future in a more inclusive and collaborative way.

Adoption of the City’s first Environment Strategy
The City of Kwinana’s first Environment Strategy aims for net zero emissions as an organisation by 2035. It sets four key directions to improve the City’s liveability, biodiversity, decarbonisation, and circularity for its residents.

Australia-first Emission Recovery Facility
The Kwinana Energy Recovery facility, located in the City of Kwinana, is the first energy recovery facility of its kind in Australia to commence waste processing from July 2024.

The City of Kwinana’s non-recyclable waste will be among the first to be supplied to the facility which will generate enough electricity to power 55,000 homes per year (38MW) and will divert up to 460,000 tonnes of waste from landfill per year.

Focus on Community Safety in October
The Community Safety Series returned in October and engaged the community with workshops, engaging pop ups and highlighted subsidies and rebates on offer to the City’s residents.

The series featured four disaster preparedness forums and reinforced the Council’s stance on domestic violence, furthering the City’s commitment to community well-being.

Expansion of the OMG Festival
In 2024 the OMG Festival transformed, evolving from its fringe roots into a multi-day, multi-venue celebration of light, art, and culture throughout November. The immersive and unforgettable experiences were held at The Grove and The Strand, delighting attendees of all ages.

The City of Kwinana thanks its major sponsors, Lotterywest and Fremantle Ports, for their support in making the OMG! Festival a highlight in the cultural calendar.

70th year of the Lolly Run
At the time of publication, the Lolly Run is still underway. The Lolly Run is a Kwinana staple and we hope all our residents have enjoyed the festivities.

As the City prepares for reduced operating hours over the holiday season, the Councillors and staff at the City of Kwinana wish you a safe festive season and a happy new year.
