Young leaders from across Kwinana were brought together at Camp Peron for a LYRiK Leadership Day.
LYRiK stands for Leadership, Youth and Respect in Kwinana and is an annual program recognising the achievements of young people and providing mentoring opportunities to those aged 10 to 24 years who live, work, or go to school in Kwinana.
The LYRiK program, sponsored by Alcoa and Coogee, aims to develop leadership skills, financial, budgeting and goal setting skills, community building skills and independence, confidence, and resilience.
Mayor Carol Adams said participants in the leadership day on 12 July included this year’s LYRiK Award winners and LYRiK scholarship recipients.
“Feedback from young people included them learning they were stronger than they thought, could push themselves further and could do amazing things if they believed in themselves,” Mayor Adams said.
“The awards winners and scholarship recipients enjoyed coming together, with a mix of physical and team building activities challenging participants and allowing people to work together and get to know one another.
“Activities included rock climbing and even crate climbing,” she said.
