A new social prescribing initiative called Find Your Fit Kwinana will link people to a range of group activities to improve mental and physical health.
The initiative will be trialed by the City of Kwinana, with the City covering the cost of group activities for eight to 10 weeks, upon a self-referral or GP referral.
Mayor Carol Adams said the concept of social prescribing was developed in England and has spread across the country in the last three decades.
“Community workers in the UK link participants to physical and social activities to improve health and wellbeing outcomes,” Mayor Adams said.
“Introducing a similar initiative in Kwinana aims to help improve social connection and the wellbeing of people living, working, or studying in the City of Kwinana,” she said.
“Through a short conversation, people will be connected to structured group activities that suit their individual interests.
“During the trial, the included programs will be run by the City of Kwinana at its facilities including The Zone Youth Space, Kwinana Public Library and the Kwinana Recquatic.
“The foundation of Find Your Fit is social connection and that is why the activities are all group activities designed to build a sense of belonging. Find your people, find your fit!” Mayor Adams said.
Find Your Fit Kwinana is suitable for individuals with low level support needs.
