City sets sights on a sustainable future
25 October 2022

The City of Kwinana is looking closely at how it contributes to a more sustainable future.

The City is inviting the Kwinana community to have input into its first ever Sustainability Strategy from Monday, 24 October to Monday, 21 November 2022 at www.lovemykwinana.com/sustainability-strategy.

The Strategy aims to ensure that the City is sustainably managed in an environmentally, economically and socially responsible way for future generations to enjoy.
Mayor Carol Adams said the Sustainability Strategy would provide direction as to how the City worked to deliver, partner and advocate for sustainability outcomes in meeting the City’s challenges and would ensure it was aligned with the City of Kwinana Strategic Community Plan.

“The Sustainability Strategy will create a roadmap in the areas of social, environmental and economic as to how we increase our existing efforts and implement new actions towards making Kwinana a more sustainable place to live as we grow.

“Embedding sustainability in decision-making is a part of our core business as a local government and makes good economic sense, leading to more resilient and regenerative cities,” she said.

The strategic directions for the strategy will align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

“There is a close alignment between the Sustainable Development Goals and our responsibility as a local government to consider the long-term environmental, social and economic interests of our community that the goals address”, Mayor Adams said.

The community is invited to complete the sustainability survey and to help shape the City of Kwinana’s sustainability goals until Monday, 21 November 2022 via the City’s engagement platform Love My Kwinana > www.lovemykwinana.com/sustainability-strategy.
