The City of Kwinana welcomes today’s announcement from the McGowan Government for the establishment of a new high-tech manufacturing hub in the region.

The proposed precinct between Henderson, Latitude 32, Kwinana and Rockingham is set to become a dedicated high-tech manufacturing hub that supports developing industries such as hydrogen, batteries, renewable energy and defence.

“The City of Kwinana has long advocated for the development of a masterplan for our region,” Mayor of Kwinana, Carol Adams, said.

“We strongly believe that this type of development will maximise the economic outcomes of the future battery industry and defence investment,” she said.

“Furthermore, this development will compliment a range of plans centred around the Kwinana area, including a new Outer Harbour,” she said.

Mayor Adams said that the announcement recognized the significant economic value generated by the Western Trade Coast Precinct, as frequently heralded by the South West Group members, including the Cities of Cockburn, Kwinana and Rockingham.

Mayor Carol Adams said that she expects the hub will attract major job-creating projects to the region, along with significant investments in infrastructure and jobs creation.

“This announcement is warmly welcomed at a time when our local community is experiencing high unemployment, particularly within our young population,” she said.

“The South West Group members have a strong commitment to supporting sustainable development of our regional economy and to creating lasting employment opportunities,” Mayor Adams said.

‘The establishment of this hub will help to create pathways for local young people through our TAFE and Trade Training Centres, providing them with hope for the future and providing local industry with a ready-made skilled workforce,” she said.

Mayor Adams said that the City stands ready to support the State Government with the rollout of this significant project and applauds the investment and foresight into the long-term economic development of the region.

“After years of significant contribution to the State’s economy, we look forward to Kwinana and the surrounding region becoming globally renowned for emerging green energy industries as well as advanced manufacturing,” Mayor Adams said.
