A local history category has been added to the existing age categories this year.

The competition attracted 60 entries across three age categories last year.

However, City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the competition was originally a local history photo competition when it began in 2018.

The City of Kwinana photography competition broadened out in 2019, and now the local history element will be reintroduced once again.

“We hope to encourage residents to share their memories of Kwinana and surrounding suburbs with the wider community, and add these to our Local History collection,” Mayor Adams said.

Photos taken prior to 1 January 2000 and within the City of Kwinana, as well as Baldivis and East Rockingham due to historic boundary changes in the district, can be entered into the Local History category. The Local History category is open to all ages and digital scanning is available upon request at the Kwinana Public Library if needed.

All entries to the photography competition must address the theme of Kwinana Inspires defined as any place, person or thing that the entrant feels plays an inspiring role or part in their life.

Photographs entered into the Child, Youth or Adult categories must be taken by the entrant within the current Kwinana local government boundary.

Category Prize money:

Children, up to 12 years         $200 prize money

Youth, 13 to 25 years             $300 prize money

Adult, 26 years and over        $400 prize money

Local History category            $200 prize money

A panel of three judges will select the winning entry from each category and winners will be announced at the beginning of July.

Entries close 4pm on Monday, 7 June 2021.
