The City of Kwinana has completed construction of a bus stop bench on Matson Street in Medina.
The City of Kwinana has completed construction of a bus stop bench on Matson Street in Medina. Local resident Frances Bush frequently catches the bus and requested the bench after she and other seniors were taking chairs to the bus stop that were repeatedly disappearing.
The Public Transport Authority recently completed an Accessibility Works Program, which aims to upgrade over 600 bus stops every year so they comply with the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport. Unfortunately, the installation of seating was not part of this program but the City of Kwinana was happy to accommodate Mrs. Bush’s request.
The City of Kwinana works in partnership with the Public Transport Authority to install and maintain bus stops in the area. A certain passenger quota must be reached before seating is put in place.
Mayor Carol Adam said Mrs. Bush let the City know that mothers and numerous senior residents often catch the Matson Street bus and that the installation of this bench would mean a great deal to the community.
“The City was pleased to honour Mrs. Bush’s request and glad this bench has improved the comfort and safety for local transport users.”
