Proposed Cat Local Law 2021

The City of Kwinana has resolved to create a new local law relating to Cats.

The purpose and effect of the local law relating to Cats are follows:

The purpose is to provide for greater regulation and control of cats.

The effect is to:

  1. limit the number of cats that can be kept by requiring a permit for more than 2 cats;
  2. create an offence to abandon a cat;                     
  3. create an offence to not comply with a notice to prevent a cat causing a nuisance
  4. ensure cats are confined;
  5. manage requests for the local government to destroy a cat; and
  6. permit the City to issue notices and/or infringements for failure to comply.

A copy of the proposed local law may be inspected at or obtained from the Council Administration Office, corner Gilmore Avenue and Sulphur Road, Kwinana between the hours of 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday, or view the Proposed Cat Local Law 2021 online.
