The popular Living Green in 2021 event series is underway with great support from the community.
Living Green started strong this month with the first event, a nightstalk at Henley Reserve in Wellard led by native wildlife expert Joe Tonga booking out.
The highlight of Living Green in 2021 is a seven-week Living Smart sustainability course exclusive to City of Kwinana residents.
Mayor Carol Adams said Living Green inspired people to bring nature into their home, live more sustainably and apply handy tips on waste reduction and simple living.
Mayor Adams said the Strategic Community Plan listed environment as one of the top priorities for the City of Kwinana.
“We are fortunate in Kwinana to be surrounded by nature, and the Living Green events encourage people to get involved in a way that suits their individual interests and lifestyles,” she said.

Movie screening:
A screening of the movie 2040 will show at the Ken Jackman Hall in the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre on Saturday, 15 May at 6.30pm. This inspirational film showcases solutions available now that can help reduce greenhouse emissions and secure a better future. Free popcorn will be provided and people will have the chance to connect with local environmental community groups.
Living Smart course:
The Living Smart course continues each Monday night 6pm to 8.30pm at the John Wellard Community Centre from Monday, 3 May finishing 14 June. The course inspires change in the home and community, covering topics such as waste, power, water, living simply, and gardening. The cost for the seven-week Living Green course facilitated by Shani Graham from Ecoburbia is $20, and $10 for concession.
Bird ID workshop:
A free Bird ID workshop will be held at Casuarina Hall on Saturday, 1 May from 8.30am to 11.30am.
Community planting days:
Popular community planting days will be held during May and June to add vegetation and habitat to Henley Reserve, Thomas Oval, Homestead Park and Lake Magenup. Details are available at www.kwinana.wa.gov.au/whatson
Seedling Subsidy:
The annual Seedling Subsidy opens May 17 is also expected to experience high demand with up to 40 native species seedlings per household available for $2.50 each. The popular scheme will operate on a ‘click and collect’ basis this year to manage demand. People will be able to order seedlings online then collect them from the Australian Native Nurseries Group. The link will be announced closer to the time on social media and the City of Kwinana website.
