Background

I moved to Kwinana in 2000 following my marriage as it was where my husband was living. It didn’t take too long before we purchased KWN number plates for our cars to make it clear we were here to stay. We moved from Leda to Homestead Ridge and recently built in Providence.

Not a lover of city living, this seemed to answer all our wishes of a country town feel with open spaces, but infrastructure bursting forth. Now almost two decades later, the growth has been inspiring and has transformed our City.

Professional Experience

As a former teacher, my interest in becoming a councillor stemmed from wanting to learn more about council, how decisions were made and the policies and constraints that apply. I wanted to help people understand the role of councils and help in solving problems for members of the community. This prompted me to join committees relating to youth, access and inclusion and multi-cultural groups as well as health and wellbeing initiatives.

Environmental issues and waste management have been important for me for many years and where possible, I have supported in a balanced manner the retention of as much green space in Kwinana and positive waste reduction through education.

My commitment to the needs of the elderly and people with disabilities has developed from my experiences while volunteering and caring for family in times of need.

Interests

My husband and I are both actively involved in Kwinana as Rotarians with each of us holding positions on the board. I am a member of the Tennis Club which is part of my fitness regime along with walking as much as possible.

I’m also a volunteer driver with Chorus, transporting clients to appointments - a position I really enjoy and learn a great deal from.

All these interests bring a variety of community experience to my role of Elected Member.

I feel rewarded by the opportunities I have been given, especially in the company of the exceptional community groups across our suburbs. I thank them for their warm welcomes and sharing of each unique entity.
