The City’s reconciliation journey includes two Reconciliation Action Plans (RAP), Reflect (link to "Reflect Reconciliation") (2018) and Innovate (2020) and we are now engaging the community for our first locally-led Reconciliation Strategy. Through a community led approach, we aim to ensure this Strategy reflects the heart, history, and aspirations of our local area.
The City is currently using the Innovate RAP as its guiding plan for reconciliation efforts and is now in the process of reviewing and refining its reconciliation practices to ensure they are effective, inclusive, and aligned with community needs.

In March 2019, the City of Kwinana launched its RAP. This plan focuses on building a better relationship between the City and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The RAP was created after several meetings where the community shared their goals for reconciliation. The main focus was on building strong relationships, showing respect, and creating opportunities.

Sharing the Nyoongar language is part of our reconciliation journey.
Language shared with the wider community, and internally among City staff, complements the annual program of Nyoongar language classes offered at the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre.
This video series demonstrates the correct way to pronounce local landmarks that have Nyoongar names, including the Koorliny Arts Centre, Ngalang Moort Manjar and Ngook Boorn Mia Mia / Honeywood Pavilion.
