In May 2023, the City of Kwinana decided to elevate the Boola Maara Advisory Group to the Boola Maara Aboriginal Consultative Committee. In May 2023, the City of Kwinana decided to upgrade the Boola Maara Advisory Group to the Boola Maara Aboriginal Consultative Committee.
Boola Maara gathered for its first meeting as an Aboriginal Consultative Committee on 1 July 2024, following a Council decision in May 2023 to elevate the Boola Maara from an advisory group to a consultative committee under Council’s Standing Orders. It is believed to be the only one of its kind in WA. As consultative committee, Boola Maara now provide input into policy development, planning and advice to Council across all areas where there is likely to be an impact on Aboriginal people and the local community.
This Consultative Committee generally meets monthly on the first Monday of the month at 10am in Council Chambers and members of the public are welcome to attend.

The Committee meets every month and includes six members: two from the Council and five from the local Nyoongar community.
The Committee helps the Council by giving advice, helping with planning, and developing policies, especially on issues that affect Aboriginal people and the local community. Members: Paul Garlett, Lisa Garlett, Deputy Mayor Barry Winmar, Marie Walley, Doris Getta, Cr Matthew Rowse, Cindy Ballard and (not pictured) Marianne Headland Mackay.
