Water Quality

The City of Kwinana monitors and manages different water sources to help protect public health.

Aquatic facilities

Aquatic facilities defined under the Health (Aquatic Facilities) Regulations 2007 (excluding most residential pools) must be operated and maintained in accordance with public health requirements.

The City undertakes monthly aquatic facilities water sampling to ensure that water quality is maintained at all times.

Beaches

The City’s beaches are sampled during November to April for bacterial quality as part of the Department of Health’s annual recreational water sampling program.

The Department of Health reports on the long-term recreational water quality results across WA.

Scheme water

Scheme (mains) drinking water is supplied and tested by the Water Corporation of Western Australia and regulated by the Department of Health.

The City of Kwinana does not manage the treatment or supply of scheme drinking water. Please contact the Water Corporation directly for any issues on the water quality.

Rainwater tanks

Rainwater may become contaminated through animal droppings, debris and microorganisms, air pollution and poorly maintained tanks or pipework. Regular maintenance is the key to good water quality in your home. Please refer to Department of Health’s Guidance on Water Tanks for more information. 

Wastewater

On unsewered land, wastewater must be appropriately treated to minimise nutrients and prevent environmental pollution. Please refer to effluent waste disposal page for more information.
