Neighbour Day and Street Meets

Neighbour Day

Neighbour Day is Australia's day to celebrate community. It’s a time to get to know the people living near you – like your neighbours next door, across the road or down the street. You might have a BBQ, a cuppa, or a friendly chat.

Neighbour Day happens every year on the last Sunday in March. It’s a great chance to thank your neighbours and build better relationships.

Please note any successful grants of $500 or more will be detailed on the City’s online register for a period of 5 years. Details will include name, brief description, amount awarded and acquital status.

You will only be eligible if you have acquitted any previous funding applications given by the City of Kwinana.

Applications for 2025 Neighbour Day funding are now closed.

But you can still apply for our Street Meets $150 rebates to help run a small get-together with your neighbours.

Street Meets

Street Meets help people connect with their neighbours. You can host a simple activity like a BBQ in your local park or a small event on your street. These gatherings help build strong friendships and a safer, more connected community.

The City of Kwinana will provide up to $150 (as a reimbursement after the activity) to encourage and support community members to organise and host street-level activities in their streets and local parks and invite their neighbours to attend or participate.

Applicants must register their event prior to it taking place. Register your Street Meet activity through the SmartyGrants online portal.

Street Meets aim to:

  • Help neighbours meet and connect
  • Support people to plan simple events in local parks and streets
  • Make communities feel safer and less isolated
  • Find and support local leaders
  • Build stronger neighbourhoods
