Unrestricted Burning Period

The Unrestricted Burning Period is in effect. Residents in rural zoned areas can burn at any time without a permit, but must do so safely and responsibly. Event Fund

The City’s Community Event Fund helps local community groups run events that bring people together, like fun days, markets, concerts and cultural celebrations.

Event Funding Objectives

The Event Fund was created to:

  • Support local community groups and help people work together.
  • Encourage volunteering to build strong, confident and welcoming communities.
  • Help people celebrate and connect with others in their area.
  • Grow community pride and a sense of belonging.

Funding Eligibility

Community groups can apply for this fund if they:

  • Are not-for-profit
  • Are officially registered (incorporated)
  • Are based in the City of Kwinana

Two or more groups can work together and apply as a team. This is encouraged.

To apply, you must:

  • Have public liability insurance of at least $10 million
  • Run an event that benefits people living in Kwinana

What to include in your application:

  • A written proposal using the correct form
  • A clear explanation of your event – include the date, time, location, what the event is about, who it is for, what activities or entertainment will be there, and what the community will gain from it
  • Show that your group can run the event on time and stay within budget
  • A detailed budget for your event, including written quotes, or screen grabs of prices from an Australian based website for all items/expenses over $500
  • Show that your group has the ability to manage the event well
  • Include any support from other organisations
  • Explain how you will thank and promote the City of Kwinana as a supporter (for example, on posters or social media)
  • Include names of other sponsors (if any)

Funding Exclusions

Applications for the Community Event Fund will not be accepted for:

  • Businesses or for-profit activities
  • General fundraising events
  • Events that exclude, offend, or harm minority groups
  • Activities that are unsafe or pose a risk to public health
  • Projects that need ongoing funding from the City
  • Projects that go against City of Kwinana policies
  • Day-to-day running costs of an organisation
  • Applicants who have not met the rules of previous grants
  • Applications that are not filled out properly
  • Covering losses or financial gaps in an organisation’s budget
  • Ongoing staff wages or regular operating costs
Funding Conditions

If your group applies for the Community Event Fund, the following rules must be followed:

  • Events must meet the goals of the City of Kwinana’s Place-Based Community Events Fund Policy.
  • All funding must be used in the same year it is given. Unused funds cannot be carried into the next year.
  • The event must take place within the time listed in the application unless the City agrees to a change.
  • The most funding given is $5,000 per project.
  • Any money not used must be returned to the City within 60 days of the event ending.
  • Funding must be used only for the event listed in the application and agreement.
  • If anything changes in your project, you must let the City know and get approval.
  • The City may ask for money back or stop funding if rules are not followed.
  • All unused or unaccounted funds must be returned to the City.
  • The money will only be paid by bank transfer to the organisation’s account. No payments will be made to individuals.
  • The City may choose to give you less than you asked for and may say what the money can be used for.
  • If you receive funds, you must send back the completed Acquittal and Evaluation Form by the date given. You must also include receipts to show how the money was spent.

Acknowledgements

If your organisation receives funding from the City of Kwinana, you must show that support in your event promotions. The City will give you a logo to use and can provide banners that must be returned after the event.

The City may also share information about your event, including photos or stories, in its newsletters, on its website or social media. You may also be asked to speak with local media.
