Community Awards and Recognition

The City of Kwinana takes pride in recognising the hardworking and dedicated community members who help make Kwinana a better place. The City’s awards program consists of two different streams, our Community Awards and the Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

Community Citizen of the Year Awards

The Community Citizen of the Year Awards are awarded by the Australia Day WA Council and is proudly supported by the City of Kwinana.

Taking applications in four categories; Citizen of the Year, Citizen of the Year – Youth, Citizen of the Year – Senior and Active Citizenship – Group or Event of the Year, nominees will be judged on the below criteria;

  • Significant contribution to the local community,
  • Demonstrated leadership on a community issue resulting in the enhancement of community life,
  • A significant initiative which has brought about positive change and added value to community life, and/or
  • Inspiring qualities as a role model for the community.

Community Citizen of The Year

Citizen of the Year is open to all residents within the City of Kwinana.

Community Citizen of the Year (Youth)

Community Citizen of the Year (Youth) is open to all residents who are under the age of 25 on 26 January in the coming year.

Community Citizen of the Year (Senior)

Community Citizen of the Year (Senior) is open to all residents who are over the age of 65 on 26 January in the coming year. 

Community Active Citizenship (Group or Event)

Active Citizenship (Group or Event) is open to any group doing outstanding work or for an event staged in the community in the past year.

City of Kwinana Community Awards

The City of Kwinana Community Awards recognise community members in their field of specialty. **Please note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Kwinana will not be undertaking its Community Awards scheme in 2020.  The Citizen of the Year Awards will still be taking place in 2020/21. Please check back in early 2021 for more information on the Sportsperson of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Arts and Culture Awards. 

Leadership Awards

The City of Kwinana Martin Waudby Leadership Award is presented to a nominee who demonstrates a commitment to driving improvement within the City within their chosen field. 

Volunteer of the Year

Volunteer of the Year looks to recognise someone who has made a significant long-term contribution to our community through volunteering of their time and skills.​

Sportsperson, Junior Sports Person and Club Person of the Year Awards

Do you know someone excelling in the Kwinana sporting community? Sportsperson of the Year, Junior Sportsperson and Club Person of the Year Awards are presented  to someone who has shown a commitment to their chosen sport and should be excelling in their field. ​

Arts and Culture Award

The Arts and Culture Awards recognise people excelling in the field of arts or cultural activities.  The nominee should be able to demonstrate how their knowledge and participation in their chosen field is enriching the lives of local Kwinana residents. ​

Applications for the City of Kwinana Community Awards are currently closed.

How to Nominate

Nominations open approximately six weeks prior to each award ceremony and can be submitted online on the City's SmartyGrants webpage.

  • Nominees should reside within the City of Kwinana or will need to demonstrate a significant and ongoing commitment to the Kwinana community.
  • Self nominations and nominations from an immediate family member will not be accepted.
  • Past winners will not be eligible to win the same award again.​
  • Activities undertaken as a part of paid employment cannot be counted towards the nominee’s consideration for an award.

The City of Kwinana honours those who have lived in the Kwinana Community through the Kwinana Pioneers program. If you’ve lived in the City of Kwinana for more than 50 consecutive years, register for the Pioneers Database to be kept up-to-date about upcoming functions.
