Come and join us at Kwinana Public Library on Whadjuk Nyoongar boodja (land) for Nyoongar Language Classes with Dylan Collard. Find out more about Dylan and Kalyakoorl at https://kalyakoorl.com.au/
These sessions are for adults, and aim to teach Nyoongar language, but more importantly, inspire an inquisitive mind about Nyoongar culture in daily life. This kind of rich learning experience works to deepen our respect and understanding of Indigenous peoples and culture and is a great step towards respectfully infusing Indigenous ways of living, knowing, and memory keeping into our daily work practices.
Since 1801 Nyoongar langauge has been written down by many different types of people and prior to this since time immemorial it was a spoken language, as a result spellings can vary. Engaging with any Nyoongar cultural program is beneficial to developing knowledge and understanding of Nyoongar culture, regardless of any spelling variances.
This is a four-week block of classes that build on each other so unfortunately drop-ins/one-offs are not possible. You must attend all classes (unless you’re sick). Partial refunds will not be given.
$20 ticket covers the series of four classes. Companion Cards accepted.
There are no class fees for Nyoongar attendees.
Register your ticket on the Library's events calendar, or call or email for help to register. Please organise payment by phone or in-person at the Library - Cash and EFTPOS options available.
