Become a citizen scientist by helping us count Black Cockatoos at a local roost site as they arrive for the evening.

The Great Cocky Count (GCC) is a citizen-science survey, and the biggest single survey for black-cockatoos in Western Australia. Volunteers will be assigned trees to monitor near a known roost site (Birdlife will assign us a location on the 31st of March. It will be within the City of Kwinana) and count black-cockatoos as they arrive in the evening. Records submitted from across south-western WA provide a snapshot of black-cockatoo populations, helping us quantify changes in their numbers.

Please where clothing appropriate for the weather, and the survey continues up to 45min after sunset so bring a jumper. Feel free to bring a chair to make yourself comfortable.

Please park in parking bays on the corner of Rushbrooke Drive and Lambeth Circle in Wellard. We will be surveying the bushland north of Wellard Village Primary School.

Please arrive by 5:00pm to commence by 5:15pm.

This event is part of the Living Green Series.
