Kwinana Public Library is offering LEGO Playtime sessions in different sensory environments for International Day of People with Disability.
All ages and abilities are welcome to join in! Explore multiple sessions to increase your understanding of differing sensory environments, or come to the sessions that best meet your sensory needs.
What do all sessions have in common?
- The joy of building with LEGO, and supportive staff who can talk about accessibility of Library programs and how we can best help you or someone you know feel comfortable to come along to programs.
- No registration is needed - drop in to explore and build, or you can contact us if you would like more structure and confirmation of your attendance.
- All sessions are in the John Slinger IT Training Room at the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre (There is an entrance to this room within the Library - If you don't know where it is, please ask staff for directions).
How are the sessions different?
- Some sessions are designed for sensory seeking needs, and some are designed for sensory avoidant needs.
Sensory seeking
Available on:
Friday 29 November, 2pm to 3pm
Thursday 5 December, 3pm to 4pm
When a program is offered in a sensory seeking (or high-sensory) environment, it means:
- The space has a higher level of visual stimuli, including brighter/varied lights.
- The space may have higher levels of noise.
- The program/space features more tactile activities and variable sensory elements.
Sensory avoidant
Available on:
Monday 25 November, 2pm to 3pm
Tuesday 3 December, 3pm to 4pm
When a program is offered in a sensory avoidant (or low-sensory) environment, it means:
- The space has a lower level of visual stimuli, including dimmed lights.
- The space has lower levels of noise.
- The program has comfortable smaller spaces available within the room to help with sensory and emotional regulation.
If you would like more information about the program, or would like to discuss accommodations to help you/someone you care for to be comfortable during this program, please contact us at programs@kwinana.wa.gov.au or 9236 4300.
