Kwinana Native Seedling Subsidy Scheme 2022 – Q&A’s

  • What is the Native Seedlings Subsidy?  The Native Seedling Subsidy is a program run by the City of Kwinana to enable residents to purchase native seedlings at a reduced cost.  The focus is on planting native species that are well adapted to the soils and micro-climate of the local area, so that they have the best chance of survival, and are suited to the environment into which they are planted.  As they are native to the area they will also benefit the local native wildlife.
  • When does the subsidy start?  Monday 16 of May 2022, 9am
  • How long does it last?  Until the end of June or until stocks run out.  There is plenty of stock, so there is no need to rush in.
  • How do I get my plants?  Download your ticket from here,  and take this and your proof of residence to Australian Native Nursery at 141 King Road, Oakford. The Nursery is open seven days a week from 9am to 4.30pm.
  • How many plants can I receive? You can purchase up to 40 seedlings per residence.
  • How much do the seedlings cost?  $2.50 each for forestry tubes, usually $5.00
  • When is the best time to get my plants?  When you have planned out your area, and you are ready to plant into the ground.
  • What advice can I get to choose the right plants?  The team at the nursery should be able to assist with advice, the best plants to plant in soil type, and details are also on plant labels in the nursery.
  • What plants can I purchase?  The plants available are mostly local native species, a species list is available upon request, email EnvironmentEvents@kwinana.wa.gov.au  or if phoning in can be forwarded to Environment and Waste Admin 9439 0401.

  • What if I can’t attend the nursery for a particular reason?  If you are not able to attend, or not able to get someone to attend for you, the City may consider making an alternative arrangement in special circumstances.  Please call 9439 0401.
