About Sam:

Sam delights in making mischief, of one kind and another. She writes and illustrates in a sunny studio in Fremantle, surrounded by colour and cats. Sam has worked across Western Australia creating paintings, community artworks and books filled with magic and wild adventures.

Sam's artwork is fuelled by sugar and she loves playing with colour to tell a story. "Colour is magical - and choosing the right colours to make the reader feel something powerful is one of my favorite parts of illustrating. Like how choosing exactly the right warm yellow can make a scene feel happy, or a cooler yellow can add an anxious feeling to a nervous character. Colour is a mighty useful tool in my art kit."

Sam is currently working on a very silly graphic novel about a frog and a bin chicken. And a darker, lovely spooky picture book for older readers about a girl who lives in a town where the wolves come to dance every winter.
