The redevelopment of our much-loved Kwinana Recquatic will focus on many exciting enhancements with the major works areas listed below:
- Increased aquatic spaces and program areas
- New warm water program pool / learn to swim areas
- New hydrotherapy pool
- New wellbeing area (spa, sauna facilities)
- New family leisure pool with water play features
- Expanded and modernised health, fitness and wellness facilities
- New change areas including family and accessible areas.
- Inclusive and accessible design principles which will be a key principle for the design process.
The redeveloped Kwinana Recquatic will serve as a comprehensive community hub, offering a wide range of aquatic, recreational, fitness, and wellness options that cater to our growing population in Kwinana. The focus on inclusivity and accessibility ensures that everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background, can fully participate and benefit from the centre’s offerings.
We’re currently in the early stages of this exciting redevelopment project. Whilst there are no definitive timeframes at this stage, we’ll be commencing the planning and design process in early 2025, following the grant agreement being in place. The design process may take 1218 months, to be confirmed. As the design process progresses, construction timeframes will become clearer and further updates will be shared at the time.
We understand the interest in adding a 50m &/or outdoor pool with water slides. The redevelopment scope does not include these features.
The centre is currently experiencing capacity challenges in relation to programmable pool space, lap lanes and a lack of general family / play areas. With the addition of a new program pool and a dedicated leisure pool, capacity in the 25m lap pool will increase to accommodate additional lap space.
The Kwinana Recquatic site is quite constrained and the City has a set budget to deliver a redevelopment, therefore we are unable to include these features.
Another factor is the consideration for the operations and management of the redeveloped facility. The City’s goal is to minimise the ongoing level of subsidy required from our ratepayers by delivering a functional facility that maximises opportunity for the community to recreate within the budget scope.
The Kwinana Recquatic redevelopment will cost approximately $35m. The City has secured $15million of these funds from the Federal Government through the Thriving Suburbs Program. An additional $21.9 million has already been allocated in our Long-Term Financial Plan for 2028.
Absolutely! We value your input and would love to hear your thoughts. Community feedback is essential to shaping the future of our leisure facility. We will have opportunities for community input during the planning stages in 2025.
We’re committed to keeping the community informed every step of the way, providing regular updates and ensuring transparency as we move toward a refreshed and improved leisure facility. Thank you for your patience and support, we’re excited about what’s to come!
