The City of Kwinana is upgrading the existing T-junction at the intersection of Wellard Road and Henley Boulevard, with construction of a new roundabout scheduled to begin on 1 December 2025. Following a competitive procurement process, the contract for the works has been awarded to Tracc Civil.
This project is proudly supported through State Government Black Spot Grant Funding for 2025–26, aimed at improving road safety and reducing the likelihood of serious crashes at known high-risk intersections.
The intersection is being upgraded to a roundabout to improve safety and reduce the high number of traffic accidents that have occurred and are likely to continue if no remedial action is taken.
Crash data shows that multiple accidents have taken place at this intersection over the past five years, including three incidents requiring medical attention and 14 resulting in property damage.
This section of Wellard Road and Henley Boulevard is a vital corridor for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians accessing local businesses, schools, and residential areas.
Converting the intersection to a roundabout will not only help manage heavy traffic flow more efficiently, but most importantly, it will significantly reduce the risk of serious crashes. This upgrade is about making the area safer for everyone—drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
Construction will run from 1 December 2025 to 9 February 2026.
To enable these works, over the school holiday period (12 December 2025 to 31 January 2026) the intersection of Wellard Road and Henley Boulevard will be closed. During this time Henley Boulevard will be closed from Abingdon Crescent. Road users are asked to follow all signage and any directions provided by traffic controllers.
The City appreciates the community’s patience as we deliver this important safety upgrade. The new roundabout will improve traffic flow, enhance safety for all road users, and support the growing transport needs of our community.
